Sod Being Stripped to allow New Fescue Turfgrass on #11 April 2007

Finished
As you can see, we have stripped the sod surrounding #7 & #11 green, and we will install new sod. The new sod will be a tall fescue grass that is very stable and heat resistant. Over many years the bent grass and the poa have crept off the putting surfaces and established around the greens. These grasses are not very good playing surfaces when maintained at normal rough height, and they tend to die out during periods of extreme heat. The fescue is an ideal surface for surrounds. It will be very dense and will provide consistent playing conditions throughout the season. If this process is as successful as we think, we will plan to complete the same procedure on some of the other surrounds that have similar conditions in the future. As the new turf establishes itself, we will play the areas as “ground under repair”. Phil and Tom will establish drop areas for each hole. Providing Mother Nature cooperates, we anticipate the surrounds will be playable in 3-4 weeks.
